Over Kalashnik Love, Speed Caravan’s eerste Real World release in de pers

“The Cure en The Chemical Brothers maken kennis met de Arabische ud van Mehdi Haddab in Speed Caravan, een in Parijs woonachtig kwartet bestaande uit Arabische luit, basgitaar, percussie, zang en elektronica. Een van de gastmuzikanten, die op dit album meespeelt in het controversiële nummer 'Killing an Arab’ van The Cure, is Rachid Taha.
Dit is geen zoetgevooisd Arabesque album, maar een bastaard-hybridische fusionplaat; ‘grungy’ en elektrisch uitversterkt. The group's guests on this album include Rachid Taha, who performs The Cure's controversial 'Killing an Arab. This is no fragrant Arabesque album but grungy, amplified, mongrel fusion. But other tracks - 'Kalashnik Love' and 'Erotic Chifitetelli' - take their inspiration from the Armenian-Turkish oud master Udi Hrant and display Haddad's dexterous instrumental technique.
