Majazzu

Dennis . L. Winter was born on the 8th of December 1958 in Paramaribo the capitol of Suriname. In 1968 he’s parents moved to Rotterdam where he grew up. Dennis has thought himself to play the guitar. Later on he studied advanced masters of guitar and composition with Ab Bronkhorts in The Hague. Dennis plays acoustic and electric guitar and percussion.
As a Guitar player : he played in varies local bands. In 1983 he formed he’s own band Majazzu. He led this band for about 10 years. Majazzu plays Afro fusion, mainly his own compositions. About the same time he formed the band Power by Birth. This band played Funk, Jazz, and Hip Hop also mainly compositions by Dennis.L. Winter. As a side man he worked with Frank Wrigth , Woody Shaw, Roy Campbel, William Parker, Hidaje Taninaka and many more. He performed in different country’s in Europe and in the USA, and Canada.

As a Composer : he composed for special projects : for RVU a television documentary, for the Art counsel of Rotterdam composition price Under on Roof “Chameleon”, for the Swiss life insurance company music for there documentary, The composition “Art of The Rain” commissioned by the Art counsel and the concert hall De Doelen in Rotterdam.
As a Producer / (Artistic) director : In 1997 he was asked to become the artistic director of one of Europe’s largest World Culture festival. In his position as director he had the pleasure to work with world class artists like Mory Kante , Salif Keita Coolio, Cheb Khaled , Manu Dibango, Yousou ‘N Dour ,Afro Cuban All Stars, the Rotterdam Philharmonic orchestra, the Metropolitan orchestra and many many more. In 2000 Dennis was the artistic director world largest world music fair and congress WOMEX. In 2004 Dennis resign from his position as over all director of the festival. Dennis has a degree in sound production, which he now puts into use as studio producer.
